We would like to suggest some activities in and around Devagiri Retreat which you could pick-and-choose or mix-and-match:

  1. Walk around our estate. There is no one to disturb you. Sit by the mini-lake or well or watch the highway, and the misty mountains. You can really watch these directly from your bathroom while you soak yourself with steaming hot water. It is a different pleasure to bathe with unlimited hot water heated by firewood instead of your regular and limited geyser hot water.
  2. Have camp fires at night near the guest house.
  3. Trek down to Shiradi Ghats as roads take sharp curves to give way for Bangalore-Mangalore traffic.
  4. Visit Kempu Holey, a river that flows thru Shiradi Ghats to reach Arabian Sea at Mangalore.
  5. If you really energetic, then trek down to Yedakumeri along the Bangalore-Mangalore Railway line. Taste fresh water directly from the springs sprouting of Western Ghats. You will get several water falls, tunnels, and high bridges as you trek thru this railway line.
  6. Visit Dharmasthala and Kukke Subramanya, which are hardly 60 km’s. from our Estate.
  7. Visit Bisile Ghats (about 60 k.m. from Devagiri Estate) where 3 districts of Hassan, Coorg, and Mangalore meet at this mountain range.
  8. Trek up Kumara Parvatha, a great trekking mountain in Karnataka.
  9. Visit Manzarabad Fort to recollect memories of Tipu Sultan.
  10. You can watch some of the favourite spots of great cinema director Mani Ratnam and see where he shot his hit move “Thiruda Thiruda.”
  11. On your way, you can visit Shravanabelagola, Belur, and Halebeedu.
  12. Mangalore is just 110 km’s and you can return on the same day if you want to visit the beaches.
  13. Visit Bettada Devaragudi (which literally means temple of mountain God), a 400-year-old temple from where you will get bird view of Malnad.
  14. Buy fresh honey, coffee beans, and pepper directly from our Estate.
  15. Relish ethnic and tasty Malnad Akki Roti. Actually, Malnad = Malenaadu = Male = Mountain; naadu = land; land of mountains.
  16. Personal care by the owners of the estate instead of managers who might do the job for the heck of doing it. If you are lucky, the estate owner will accompany you to act as guide.
  17. If you are lazy enough to trek, then take an off-road drive to Kyanahally Gudda (about 20 km’s) in your car for a bird view of Shiradi Ghats from where you can also watch the train track of Mangalore-Bangalore.
